Ford Pro has launched the 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility (PIU), equipped with the popular hybrid powertrain option, now shipping to police agencies across the United States. Recognized as America’s leading police vehicle, the 2025 PIU elevates standards in pursuit-rated law enforcement vehicles with state-of-the-art technology and advanced safety features.
The hybrid powertrain, a key highlight of the 2025 PIU, enhances performance while drastically reducing fuel consumption. This system powers onboard equipment when the gas engine is off, saving up to 838 gallons of fuel annually. This efficiency translates to approximately $17,500 in savings over six years, assuming gas prices of $3.50 per gallon.
“Officers often have long idle times when on patrol, so the hybrid powertrain is a popular choice,” explained Lindsey Bertino, Ford Pro Police Vehicle Marketing Manager. “We’ve also standardized popular features like the Police Perimeter Alert, for more situational awareness and new officer safety features simplifying the ordering process for fleet managers.”
Prioritizing safety, the 2025 PIU meets Ford’s 75-mph rear-impact crash test goals, providing maximum protection for officers. The Police Perimeter Alert system detects nearby moving threats, automatically activating the rear camera, sounding a chime, rolling up windows, and locking doors to maintain officer vigilance.
Additional safety features include available ballistic panels for front doors, offering level III+ and IV+ protection against various firearm threats. Advanced Driver-Assist technology includes Automatic Emergency Braking, BLIS (Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross-traffic Alert), Rear Parking Sensors, Reverse Brake Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking, ensuring comprehensive driving support.
Powertrain Options and Innovative Features
The 2025 PIU offers three powertrain choices:
- 3.3-liter direct-injected V6 with hybrid system (AWD): 318 horsepower, 322 lb.-ft. of torque.
- 3.3L V6 gas engine (AWD): 285 horsepower, 260 lb.-ft. of torque.
- 3.0L V6 EcoBoost engine (AWD): 400 horsepower, 415 lb.-ft. of torque.
New features include a 12.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, Manual Police Pursuit Mode, Police Perimeter Alert system, Police Engine Idle feature, and the Police Dark Car feature for covert operations. The Ford Pro Vehicle Integration System 2.0 facilitates customization, while advanced over-the-air capabilities ensure seamless updates.
Four remappable switches integrated into the steering wheel allow easy control of essential police applications. An available lockable vault provides secure storage for weapons, ammunition, or critical evidence, while the Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO) enhances cargo area security.
Assembled at the Chicago Assembly Plant in Illinois, the 2025 PIU forms part of Ford’s extensive lineup of police vehicles, including the 2024 F-150 Police Responder, Expedition/MAX SSV, and Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle models. Agencies can subscribe to Ford Pro Telematics, accessing real-time vehicle data to optimize performance and maintenance, ensuring higher productivity.
