Eleven 12-meter BYD electric buses have been successfully deployed in the city of Zalaegerszeg in Hungary. This innovative project was completed in partnership with Volánbusz, one of the largest public transport operators in Hungary, and the Hungarian Motorsport Development Agency’s (HUMDA) Green Bus Program. With a total project investment of HUF 2.1 billion ($6,150,962), the city is set to benefit from a green, sustainable, and efficient public transport system serving over 55,000 residents.
The new electric buses, replacing 11 previous vehicles, are expected to run on almost all bus lines in the city. The electric buses come equipped with air conditioning, wheelchair accessibility, electronic passenger information systems, and onboard cameras. One of the standout features of these eBuses is their efficient charging system. A full charge, achieved in a mere 2 to 2.5 hours, allows these buses to cover a distance of up to 300 kilometers.
Mr. Javier Contijoch, eBus Sales President at BYD Europe, praised the launch. “This significant event positions Zalaegerszeg, HUMDA, and Volánbusz among the global communities actively advancing electromobility,” he said. He expressed confidence that BYD’s long experience in electric public transport will ensure the new eBuses meet the city’s needs for high quality, sustainable transport.
The deployment in Hungary follows BYD’s collaboration with Castrosua in Spain, where the first jointly manufactured eBus was launched. This bus features advanced BYD chassis technology and a unique 6-in-1 controller that improves reliability, operational proficiency, and energy efficiency. With the ability to accommodate 92 passengers and a range of over 450 kilometers on a single charge, the BYD-Castrosua eBus represents another major milestone in BYD’s international expansion.
BYD’s commitment to clean public transportation has already seen the company deploy or receive orders for 4,200 eBuses across Europe, resulting in a significant reduction of CO2 emissions. With a robust and ambitious expansion plan, BYD is committed to delivering electric mobility options to even more people, working towards a future of zero-emission public transportation worldwide.
